Firefox 4 Beta 8 Released

After more delays, Mozilla has released the eighth beta for Firefox 4.0 on December 21st. This is a regular beta release and is being made available for testing purposes only.

Firefox 3.5.16 Released

Mozilla released an update for Firefox 3.5 on December 9th. This released addressed several security issues as well as stability issues.

See the Release Notes for more information. Auto-updates should be occurring in the next 24-48 hours, otherwise users may get the latest update by going to Help menu and selecting Check For Updates.

IMPORTANT! Firefox 3.5 support will be ending soon. Upgrade to Firefox 3.6

Firefox 4 Beta 7 Released

After much delay, Mozilla has released the seventh beta for Firefox 4.0 on November 10th. This is a regular beta release and is being made available for testing purposes only.

New stuff in this Beta 7 release:

  • Uses JägerMonkey, a new, faster JavaScript engine
  • WebGL is enabled by default on Windows and Mac OS X. WebGL support requires an OpenGL-capable graphics card. Support for other graphics cards on Windows (specifically Intel GPUs) and Linux will be coming in a future beta
  • Certain rendering operations are now hardware-accelerated using Direct3D 9 on Windows XP, Direct3D 10 on Windows Vista and 7, and OpenGL on Mac OS X
  • Improved web typography using OpenType with support for ligatures, kerning and font variants
  • HTML5 Forms API makes web based forms easier to implement and validate

Firefox 3.6.12 Released

Mozilla has released an emergency update to Firefox 3.6 on October 27th. From Mozilla Developer’s News:

These releases fix a critical security issue that could potentially allow remote code execution. We have received reports from several security research firms that exploit code leveraging this vulnerability has been detected in the wild. Thanks to Mozilla’s industry-leading open security process the fix has been created, tested, and released to users within 48 hours of first notification about the vulnerability.

Firefox 3.5.14 Released

Firefox 3.5.14 was released on October 19th and fixed several security issues and stability issues. See the Release Notes for more information.

Auto-updates should be occurring in the next 24-48 hours, otherwise users may get the latest update by going to Help menu and selecting Check For Updates. If you’re still using Firefox 3.0.x, this version is no longer supported and may contain security vulnerabilities.

IMPORTANT! This is likely the final update on the Firefox 3.5 builds.

Firefox 3.5.13 Released

Firefox 3.5.13 was released on September 16th and fixed a single stability issue affecting a limited number of users. See the Release Notes for more information.

Auto-updates should be occurring in the next 24-48 hours, otherwise users may get the latest update by going to Help menu and selecting Check For Updates. If you’re still using Firefox 3.0.x, this version is no longer supported and may contain security vulnerabilities. Please upgrade to Firefox 3.5 by downloading Firefox 3.5.13 from here

It also appears there is going to be one more update after all. Firefox 3.5.14 is due out in mid October 2010.

Firefox 4 Beta 6 Released

Mozilla has released the sixth beta for Firefox 4.0 on September 14th. This is a Fire Drill (unplanned) release and is being made available for testing purposes only.
