Detect FireSheep snoop software

” Researchers from security firm Zscaler have published free software that detects when users’ web connections are being monitored by a controversial tool that steals log-in credentials from Facebook, Google and dozens of other websites.
Dubbed BlackSheep, the Firefox extension alerts users when computers on a local area network are using FireSheep to steal unencrypted cookies the websites use to grant users access to their account pages. When BlackSheep detects the snoop software in a hotspot or other open Wi-Fi network, it displays a message that reads “Somebody is using FireSheep on this network.” It then displays the LAN IP address of the offending party… “

” Adobe Flash Player 10.1.85.3 addresses multiple vulnerabilities in the widely-installed software for Windows, Mac, Linux, and Solaris. A corresponding update for the Android version is expected by November 9 (US time).
“Issues addressed by the update include multiple memory corruption vulnerabilities that could lead to code execution (including one that was specific to Windows and ActiveX), a denial of service vulnerability with potential for arbitrary code execution, an input validation vulnerability that could lead to a bypass of cross-domain policy file restrictions, a library-loading vulnerability with potential code execution, and an information disclosure vulnerability that was specific to Safari on Mac OS X… “

No IE9 for XP

” Microsoft has ruled out putting Internet Explorer 9 on Windows XP, leaving millions of PCs open to Mozilla and Google browsers providing hardware-accelerated rich-internet.
Ryan Gavin, senior director of IE business and marketing, said Microsoft would not put IE9 hardware acceleration features in the current version of its browser, IE8, or back port IE9 to older PCs running Windows XP… “

” I’ve never exactly had a problem running the Firefox web browser on a netbook. But I do tend to disable a few toolbars so that the browser UI doesn’t take up too much screen real estate. When you’re using a 1024 x 600 pixel display, every pixel counts.

Mozilla yanks password stealing Firefox add-on.

” …Mozilla on Tuesday warned users that a password-stealing add-on slipped into Firefox’s extension gallery more than a month ago had been downloaded nearly 2,000 times before it was detected.

The malicious “Mozilla Sniffer” add-on was yanked from Mozilla’s servers Monday, and added to the Firefox “blocklist,” a last-resort defense that uninstalls potentially-dangerous browser extensions from users’ machines.

Mozilla also notified users of a critical security vulnerability in another add-on, the popular “CoolPreviews,” which currently sits at No. 21 on the Firefox most-downloaded list, saying it had temporarily yanked that plug-in, too.

The Mozilla Sniffer add-on was submitted to the Firefox Add-ons site June 6, Mozilla announced in a blog post yesterday…. “

IBM names Firefox its default browser
