Blockbuster Super Bowl Commercial

Filed under: Blog News, Other — El Guru @ 9:01 PM

Since I waiting for this DNS issue to resolve itself, I am holding off on posting any other major Firefox/Mozilla News. So, a little something different. I am one of those people who are more interested in the Super Bowl Commercials than the game itself (although this year’s was a really great game). One my favorites is the Blockbuster Commercial for Blockbuster Total Access…

Permalinks & Domain

Filed under: Blog News — El Guru @ 7:40 PM

I am in the process of getting my new domain, www.ffextensiongurublog.info setup with the blog. I have been experiencing some issues with the DNS servers tonight so the new domain may not be working for some people. Hopefully this will clear itself up shortly, but may take up to 48 hours for some of the servers to update. Once the DNS issues are resolved you should be able to access the blog using the new www.ffextensiongurublog.info address.

With the new domain name setup, the address in the address bar remains static regardless of where in the blog you are. Because of this, I have added a permalink (a link that readers can use to bookmark the current blog post) to many of the articles on the blog. At this time all new articles, the most popular articles, articles posted within the last couple weeks and a few others have permalinks on the bottom right of the article just above the categories and comments line. Since this blog spans nearly 300 posts, most of the older posts will not have permalinks.

Fx 3a2 & Gecko 1.9a2 Released

Filed under: Firefox, Fx 3.0, Releases — El Guru @ 6:39 PM

The next developers milestone for Firefox 3, Alpha 2 has been released. It is important to note this release is only for web developers and the Mozilla testing community. Also important Gecko 1.9 does not support the following out-dated OS’s, Win95, Win98, WinMe, and Mac OS 10.2.

Some new feature with this release:

  • Resolved remaining issues with ACID2 test compliance.
  • Support for the Web Apps 1.0 API for changing stylesheets.
  • XML documents can now be rendered as they’re downloaded instead of only after the full document has been loaded.
  • Greatly improved Mac widgets support since Alpha 1.
  • Improvements in the Cairo graphics layer.

Warning! The browser may consume excessive amounts of memory after prolonged browsing. In order to better handle memory issues, a new garbage collection system has been implemented. However, as the process of integrating Gecko into this system is still ongoing, there are some known leaks that result in large memory usage when the browser is used for a long period of time. A restart should resolve the problem, which will be fixed in Alpha 3.
