Update Notifier For Firefox & Thunderbird 2.0

Update Notifier was updated this morning to work with Firefox 2.0 and Thunderbird 2.0Beta1 . This handy little extension automatically checks for updates to your installed (enabled or disabled) extensions and themes and will notify you when there is an update. It also has a ‘restart’ option which is handy when switching themes. Update Notifier 0.1.5.1

Update: ONE Lifetime Transfer with Windows Vista

Last month I had pointed out in my post: ONE Lifetime Transfer with Windows Vista, a change to Microsoft EULA in regards to transferring your copy of Windows Vista to another device you owned. With the new changes you could make one transfer for the lifetime of the product without having to purchase a new license.

From CyberNet News >>Vista Entices PC Enthusiasts With License Changes:

Windows Vista Team Blog had to say about it:

  • You may uninstall the software and install it on another device for your use. You may not do so to share this license between devices.

You can find the newly-revised retail license terms here, as I’m sure you’ll want to read them for yourself.

Our intention behind the original terms was genuinely geared toward combating piracy; however, it’s become clear to us that those original terms were perceived as adversely affecting an important group of customers: PC and hardware enthusiasts. You who comprise the enthusiast market are vital to us for several reasons, not least of all because of the support you’ve provided us throughout the development of Windows Vista. We respect the time and expense you go to in customizing, building and rebuilding your hardware and we heard you that the previous terms were seen as an impediment to that — it’s for that reason we’ve made this change.

Now, keep in mind you must have purchased the retail version of Windows Vista. You can not transfer an OEM version.

Update: Firefox 1.5.0.8 Release

UPDATE:
Firefox 1.5.0.8 has been released as of 11/08/06.
Please see entry: Firefox 1.5.0.8 RELEASED
for updated information and download link.

Okay, so I like totally didn’t notice that Firefox 1.5.0.8 did NOT come out this past Wednesday as I had posted in Firefox 1.5.0.8 & IE7 Force Feeding. It was not until a forum member in Go Firefox! responded to my post there asking about the status that I realized this had happened. I also realized I had not been over to Firefox Builds on mozillaZine in a couple days as well.

After checking in at Firefox Builds, I found out some new info about the pending Firefox 1.5.0.8 and beyond builds. First, per the Firefox 1.5.0.8 Release Schedule, the new release date is Wednesday, November 8th (note: this is subject to change). Also it appears Firefox 1.5.0.8 is only going to be a feature enhancement build. What this means, is that any bug fixes or regression issues that were not repaired or controlled with the 1.5.0.7 build will not be addressed in this build. Instead they will be in the 1.5.0.9 build and no, I don’t have a release date on that build.

However what caught my attention was some discussion earlier in Firefox Builds saying that the updater in 1.5.0.8 will not give you a choice to decline the update to 2.0.0.1 (I don’t have a release date for this either) and stay in the 1.5.0.X builds. I’ll have to follow that thread as this does not make any sense.
